Smoking 4.6's
Does anyone know if ford has improved the valve stem seal problems that caused the 90's smokers? We are looking for a 2000 or newer towncar, but our 2000 Grand marquis is usng oil, with no leaks and no smokes.
any advice or comments?? |

Re: Smoking 4.6's
You can purchase a compression tester with a hose. Remove the gage and install an air hose fitting. Go to a machine shop and purchase new umbrella seals. With the valves closed you can use an air compressor to keep the valves closed on one cylinder at a time. Buy a spring compressor at sears or a parts store and change one cylinder at a time. Have a magnet handy to get the keepers and a can to put them into. You have do one cylinder finish and then rotate the engine. You will also need new valve cover gaskets.
