minor fuse issue
whats good all...
i'm a bit new here, but i'll do the best i can to explain my problem. I have a 1988 honda accord lx-i (yeah i know, its old lol). all stock parts in it as well. I have an alpine head unit, 2 audiobahn AW1200N 12" subs in a ported box, and an audiobahn A1300HCT high current amp. i have 4 gauge wiring with a 60 amp inline fuse and for some reason i keep blowing them. i dont blow them everytime i put a new one in, but they still blow after a couple weeks of use, and i dont know why. if anyone could help me out i would really appreciate it. if you need more information just ask as well. thanks -kevin |

Re: minor fuse issue
you're blowimg fuses cuz you're amp is pulling too much current. What does the manual say about what fuse to use with the way you have the speakers wired ? Some amps may need a 60 A fuse for normal and say an 80 A for if you have the speakers wired to less than 1 ohm, or the amp is brideged, etc ...

Re: minor fuse issue
thanks for the reply man.
my subs are dual 4 ohm voice coils, so i got them wired at 1 ohm right now. i'll check the sub manual to see what what fuse size i should be using...if its not in the manual is there anywhere els ei could find out? thanks man -kevin |

Re: minor fuse issue
i'd just go up to an 80 amp fuse, cuz that fuse only protects the battery. the amp will have it's own fuse(s) to protect it.

Re: minor fuse issue
That amp requires 3 30 amp fuses for the amp so best size to use is a 90 or 100 amp inline fuse. If you use a 90 amp fuse and it pops it then it will protect the 3 30 amp fuses in the amp if you use a 100 amp fuse then the 30 amp fuses will pop and would probably be easier and cheaper to replace.

Re: minor fuse issue
^^ agrees with above, put a 100 amp main fuse in .... it is really only protecting the battery anyway.

Re: minor fuse issue
thanks for all the relpys guys.
alright, so i'll get a 100A inline fuse now. but that means i have to get a new fuse holder as well because the fuse isnt AGU anymore...anyone know where to get a cheap 100A fuse and an AFS fuse holder besides at crutchfield? thanks for all your help guys. |
