I need opinions

Within the next few months I will be doing a lot of traveling all over Pennsylvania. So instead of using my work truck I will be using the Town Car a lot. It has almost 192,000 miles on it now and probably within the next couple of months, the oil will need changing. I was thinking about switching to Synthetic Oil. I know there are many posts on this site about synthetic oil and its advantages. However, what I want to know is: Is the synthetic oil worth it with a car like mine with all the miles it has? And also, what would be the best brand to put into my car? For those of you who know me, you know that I baby my car to death. I do use Quaker State 10W-30 with SLICK50 and every 1500 miles, it burns a quart of oil. Opinions would be great. Thank you!

Re: I need opinions

I would put castrol Syntec and a K&N oil filter. I bought one and have not installed yet even though i just changed my oil last wk with castrol, but they put a fram oil filter since i had left the K&N one at home. I also did not use the castrol syntec, just regular castrol gtx. I hope this helps.

i use a K&N Oil filter it really does keep the oil nice a clean. i'll check out the castrol site; see if that will work for the car.

It will prob burn/loose more oil if you use synthetic. I would only use it in engines without leaks including valve guide leaks. This is common in the 4.6L
at 195K kinda a little to late. The damage has already been done.

well i figured out why the engine has been "burning" oil. it hasnt been burning it at all. i've had the car covered for the past 4 days and noticed an oil spot underneath the car. the drain plug was leaking very slowly. it was tight but the washer around it was shot so i bought a new drain plug and changed the oil on monday. when i change my oil in this car the oil is never that dirty at all, even with all the miles on this car. when i first got this car i took the engine apart and rebuilt it just for the hell of it. i replaced the valve seals then along with other internal components. and i put a new transmission in it just for the hell of it because i didnt trust it with all the miles it has on it. and that was at 176,000 miles. the car now has 192,000 miles on it. believe me, this car will run well over 300,000 miles. i baby this car to death. and so did the owner before me
