Re: what do you use to paint??
Spay cans for the body, brush for some small pieces and I'm starting to use the airbrush only on the interior until I get really comfortable with it, then I will use it on the body

Re: what do you use to paint??
I use a rattle can for the interior, use a brush for the engine, and all other small parts, and then use my airbrush for the chassis, and exterior.... I got my paasche vl off towerhobbies.com for a pretty good price. You can find them on ebay new for cheap, then you have to buy a compressor. I bought mine off ebay for $30.... So, you can get good deals.

Re: what do you use to paint??
If anybody looks for ways to save money while modeling, it's me. However, I use an airbrush for everything that I can. Body, of course. Chassis and floorpan; it saves paint and is much quicker and easier. Black interior parts, because brush-painted semi-gloss black is much shinier and less realistic than lightly airbrushed semi-gloss black. White anything, because white is hard to brush on; it doesn't stick very well and shows through on the edges. Engine assemblies (like red and orange Chevy's), because it turns out smoother. Anything aluminum, steel, or gunmetal, because I use Model Master Metalizer paint (there is no substitute. Period) for those, and it's airbrush-only. Only primer and clear coat are spray painted--primer is PlastiKote brown anti-rust auto body primer (works great, sprays smooth, dries fast). Clear coat is Testors GlossCote (works OK, sprays a bit rough, dries slow, but it's all I have). Airbrushes aren't cheap, but they are well worth it. I use a Testors Aztec plastic airbrush, which was quite inexpensive, and a Campbell and Hausfeld electric air compressor, which probably cost from $75-$100. I love my airbrush. If you get one, take good care of it, clean it well, and it will last you a long time.
I use a brush for small details, multi-colored parts, and aluminum and steel stuff that is too small to airbrush, with Testors aluminum and steel enamel brush paint.

in my opinion, I have the testors complete airbrush system which includes the airbrush, color cups, mixing cups, cleaning station, and air compressor for only $195.99, which is a great deal. Here's my firebird i painted with it... U can get it online, or, I got mine at a hobbytown USA. This is my second paintjob, so no, it's very easy, but TEST, TEST, and TEST some more Definately worth it! |

Re: what do you use to paint??
Airbrysh for everything exept little details (brush) and the body work(spraycans). But now I'm starting to airbrush the body's to, because those spraycans can become expensive. Invest in a good airbrush, it will increase you're quality of you're models and in the long term, it can save you money. (especially to replace those spraycans)
i've used a badger 200 for years. |

Re: what do you use to paint??
Like some friends here said, I use exclusivelly my airbrush. I have a Badger Crescendo 175T and a Testors professional. At this time I don't find any use for rattle cans, I say myself. I know about modelers that do real fine paint jobs using cans.
If this can help, I'm posting here 3 great sites that can guide you through to the world of the airbrush use. I hope it can help! http://fichtenfoo.home.comcast.net/i...htutorial.html http://www.howtoairbrush.com/lesson%201.htm http://tamiya.com/english/scale/beginner2/2.htm In the Tamiya one you can even take some tips that can help you in many other areas in your models building. Good luck! Quote:
