1994 ram 250 stalls when warm

Hi
As the title says, stalls when warm, a friends shop did a tune up, changed cam sensor, cleaned throttle body, and changed the coil because it showed weak spark.I picked the van up and it started up and ran great, was on the parkway for about 1/2 hr and when i got off it started shuttering when I stopped and when i got home, it stalled when idling and cranked but would'nt start after sitting for about 3 hrs. They think that the computer that is on the firewall might be malfunctioning when it gets hot. Can this be the problem.
the van has a 318ci, auto w/OD, 140,000 miles and uses a little oil but otherwise has been running fine.

Thanks for any help you guys can supply!

Steve

Re: 1994 ram 250 stalls when warm

Could be ... but I would think more in terms of a malfunctioning fuel pump.

Since it was just worked on, I would check under the cover for something the shop might have left loose.

Also, if it has an EGR valve those are known to stick and cause similar problems, but won't keep one from starting (just makes it run like hell when it does).

just some suggestons from an ol' Dodge tech

Re: 1994 ram 250 stalls when warm

thanks for the suggestions.
It does seem to be a fuel supply problem, I'm going to work on it this weekend. I'll check the fuel pump, the filter was just changed,as was the cam sensor and PVC valve. Could the O2 sensor cause this when warm? Also I see that there's a auto shutdown relay that connected to the O2 sensor, could that cause this problem?

thanks for the help

Re: 1994 ram 250 stalls when warm

Hi All
I found the problem, it was the ECM unit, so after alot of parts changed and time and money spent, this was a relatively easy fix.
I got a rebuilt unit on line from BBB Automotive Parts for $220.
I would suggest before buying one that you pull the electrical connection and check for corrosion causing bad contacts.

I hope this helps anyone with a similar problem

Re: 1994 ram 250 stalls when warm

I had the same problem on a 1994 B 350 5.9 Lt. It would run great until it got warm, then suddenly just sputter and die. The ECM was the culprit, I also got the part from BBB, works like a charm now!

Also checked pickup, coil, crank pos sensor before purchasing a new ECM this one stumped me for a long time.
