ef_lsvtec

hey ef_lsvtec your the one who is doing that ls vtec with a gsr head and civic type r pistons right ? well i was reading my sport compact car and it said that a ls vtec with a b16a head with type r pistons will yield a comp ratio of 12.7:1, which is already not streetable. then it was saying that the civic type r pistons wont even fit on the ls rods. and then with a b16 head with type r pistons on ls rod length, that the piston would slam into the head. just to let you know if you didnt read it cause it could turn deadly if you do that setup

Thanks for thinking of me I'm using usdm type R pistons with stock ls rods. Machine shop did something to make em fit. FYI, got my rod and main bearings last week and dropped em off to the shop. Mechanic said it will be ready by end of this month...Yeah right, I heard that before...3 months or so ago...Anyway...I'm keeping my hopes up, I'll give him til first week of September then breaking in starts...Drivers...start your engine:finger:

sorry taht wasnt what i meant to say. what about the pistons hitting the head cause with the stock ls rod lenght and the type r pistons, it will push the piston right into the head. theres no way to lower the comp ratio unless you change the lenght of the rods

well ef, i suggest you pick up the october issue of sport compact car and read it, its an article in the beginning. i really do advise that you read it cause it sounds just like the lsvtec you plan on doing adn they say it wont work. just looking out for you cause i dont want anyone to build a motor thats gonna blow up

I really appreciate your concern...I've read a lot about it before making my decision. Plus I have a skilled mechanic that has done many lsvtec set up as mine...One note though, advancing the timing over 4 degrees is a no-no because you're right about the close clearance.
