Need a Hood

Wow, did I just make a huge mistake. Talk about a bad day. I had just finished changing the pads on my front rotors, put the tires on, washed my hands and went back outside to test them out. The breaks worked fine, but as soon as the car hit 40mph....WHAM!!! Yup, I forgot the push the hood all the way down. Since it was dark outside, I didn't notice that I didn't engage the latch. So, like a friggin idiot, I drive the thing down the road and my hood flies up and hits the windshield. I not only bent the living crap out of the hood, but I crunched the glass at the bottom of the windshield and broke the molding that goes between the windshield and the hood. I didn't check yet, but I more than likely bent the windthield arms well. Anyway, I guess I have another project on my hands. Not only am I embarrassed, but I am going to be out some serious money. Maybe someone here can give me some suggestions on where to get a new hood. Maybe I can buy one that is already painted. Also, I need to know where I can get the black molding pieces that are in between the windshield and the hood (I'm not sure what that is called anyway). Maybe I can salvage my own hood, but I suspect it is shot because that are two major creases on both sides of it. Anyay, I just thought I would post. I apprecieate any input.

Re: Need a Hood

Ok, bought a hood. Got a red one for 29 bucks at a pick an pull. Now, all I need to do is get a cheap paint job. Maybe I can do it myself. I wonder how easy that would be?

Re: Need a Hood

wow thats a great price for a hood. cheapest i could find one was 100 bucks. actually that same thing happened to me except i was driving my dads grand cherokee. replaced the hood latch and the secondary latch was rusted so id didn't latch when i shut the hood. i pulled out on the main road and as soon as i hit 55, wam the hood flys open, creasing the top corners but did not hit the window. good thing you didn't hit anything or anyone.

Re: Need a Hood

Sorry to hear about the Jeep. Well, everything will be back to normal (whatever that is) by Friday. I just got the windshield replaced for 200 bucks and the paint job will cost 200 as well (seems like everything is 200 bucks lately). Anyway all in all, I spent 440 dollars (10 bucks for the 2 cowl pieces on either side of the hood) for something that would have cost me only a can of WD40 to spray the latch. I do have some good news though. I saved a ton of money on my car insurance by switching to progressive rather than geico!
