Heater Core???

1-My car has been over heating.
2-I've been getting the coolant syrup smell in my car.
3-My girlfriend was complaining that the her feet were really hot in the passenger seat.(Were the Heater Core is)

So i need help. Does anyone have any clue what is the cause of this.
Can my heater core be bad although i never use it.(Miami)
Could it be the hose that has a leak?
I need help quickly.

Water Pump- Radiator are both less than a year old; and the thermostat well i removed that about a week ago when it first gave signs of heating up?

Any help is appreciated thank you.

Re: Heater Core???

1)The heater core , good or bad, will have no effect on the car over heating. There are other cooling system issues to be addressed concerning this such as dirty clogged radiator cores, improper water / coolant mix ratio, faulty radiator cap, poor water pump performance, leaves and debris, or bent fins on the radiator or condensor core obstructing air flow thru the radiator and a/c condensor & ect., missing air dam, inoperative cooling fan, bad fan switch or relay............................................. ...........................

2) yes the heater core can leak even if you never use it.

3) hot feet on passenger side could be a stuck or inoperative blend door.
another possibility is a missing heat shield over the Cat Converter or an improperly tuned / timed engine causing excessive Converter and exhaust temps.

Re: Heater Core???

Sorry but I disagree. The heater core could be the exact reason your overheating. If its clogged (which is very very common) or damaged. The coolant could be leaking out and causing air to get into the system and causing hot spots and not delivering proper cooling to the rest of the engine. I would check the coolant level and replace the heater core ASAP before some damage is done, if its not done already.

Re: Heater Core???

Ok i know overheating is usually caused by all the things you said but as i said all my stuff(radiator, water pump) are pretty new.

Does anyone know how i would go about replacing the heater core.
Also the smoke that come out when my car over heats is coming from under the passenger side exhaust. WHAT IS THERE?
Were are the heater hoses?

The heater core must be taken out from inside the car. You need to detach the hoses from the passenger side rear of the engine bay then take out the glove box and remove the fasteners and pull it out.

This is exactly where I was going to go with this, if there is a head leak, all the gook will gather in the heater core. Make sure they back flush the system.
