subwoofer help

is it possible to install a subwoofer on my stock infinity sound system? If so would it be hard to do it?

Re: subwoofer help

No, it's not possible unless you want to just run the sub off of one of the wires for the back speakers, but that would just be gay. You would have one missing back speaker and a horrible sounding sub. You need an aftermarket head unit with amp pre-outs to run a sub the right way.

Not correct. You can run a splitter off of the rear speakers and still have rear speakers and a sub, that's how I have it set up in my Monte. Stock head unit with rca outputs that splice into the rear speakers. Works awesome.

Yeah but aren't you sharing power with the back speakers? The internal amp is only going to put out so many watts, so the sub is going to sound like shit because your not getting it much power.

Re: subwoofer help

Just get a better HU. Alpine is good. It will pay off. Better quality plus a real channel for your sub.

Re: subwoofer help

Not much for alpine though... good stuff, I just dont like them. Eclipse is good and higher end pioneer can be good too.

Re: subwoofer help

I am sharing output with my stock speakers, but it still sounds pretty good for being wired to a stock HU, IMO. I didn't want a big ass stereo with an aftermarket unit because if someone looks in the window and sees a stock HU, they aren't gonna break in as much as with an aftermarket HU, or at least where I live that's pretty much how it goes. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't sound as good as a good aftermarket unit, but it sounds pretty good for stock.

Re: subwoofer help

if you decide to go the route of using the box for the back. I have one in my garage from when I had my old eclipse. IT works fine. If you want it you pay shipping. I think they normally cost 20 so this might cost you 5-6 dollars then.

It has leads on it to run to each back speaker i think already (or at least the places to connect yours)

You run this to each back speaker (your backs still work just fine) and then run the RCA preouts off this to the amp. I can include an rca cable if you want it then too. Let me know but I ask 2 bucks for the rca cable.

Let me know if you are interested.

Re: subwoofer help

Re: subwoofer help

I agree with the above comment. Get a new HU. This will also give you better control of the sub. I've had my Alpine HU for 5 years and love it. You can adjust the power output to the sub with a dedicated line from an aftermarket sub, which is really nice b/c it puts this control at your fingertips.
