Head rebuild time

Well the MSD ignition came in today!!!!! ....................still no start

so the only other thing i could think of was bad head gasket warpped some valves.( what led me to think that was because after i did the motor swap its always ran hot)

well guess what i checked compression in the first 2 cylinders and #1 had 50 lbs and #2 had 74.....needless to say i didnt go any further.

so my questions are.....first off im trying to get a loan to just get it all done at once but if not can i do lifers valves retainers all of the goodies and not have to get cams right now.
second question im gana keep this car N/T so i wont to build it for N/T what would be the best way to go build the head as in parts and what all i should get done to it....

please help me out guys because i really have no clue

Re: Head rebuild time

I would probably get it ported if I was you. I am rebuilding my head right now too and I am most likely getting it ported. Parts include valves, springs, retainers, guides, valve locks, new water pump, new thermostat, new gaskets(mani-turbo)(mani-head)(head gasket), and cams. I am getting it ported 1mm over too. It gets pretty expensive in the labor when you port the head though.

Re: Head rebuild time

well from what i've heard i wont get much of a gain geting it ported and ploished mabey 10 hp and 600 bucks aint worth 10 hp to me...i would rather make it up somewhere else.

but my main question is if i get a loan it dont matter but if i cant get the loan im not gana be able to buy the cams right now. but i know when you go with bigger cams you gota have diffrent rockers and lifters if i could buy the rocks and lifters i need'd for those cams would they also work with my stock cams untill i can buy the aftermarket ones

Re: Head rebuild time

That's over my head. I didn't think the rockers and lifters mattered if you got performance cams...I guess they could for the 420a but, I really don't think it maters with the 4g63.

Re: Head rebuild time

I think you're going WAYYY overboard for keeping it a NT. You could keep the bottom end stock and be completely fine and probably save half of your total, if not more. What you have listed for parts is what the turbo 420a run 20+psi on all day long. I think your head list looks good though, but with those mods, a port job would do a little more justice than just 10hp, and porting isn't that tough. Just practice on a junk head first and then do a good job on your built head. But for the bottom end I would just go with this:

.20 over stock pistons
Stock rods
Standard Clevite 77 main and rod bearings
Stock oil pump
Waterpump of your choice (Napa has some good waterpumps)
Mitsu Timing belt, tensioner, & idler pulley.
ARP studs
Cometic headgasket
