94 passport heater core

I think my heater core went on my passport. The only coolant leak I can find is comming from the firewall area in the engine compartment. The interior is side seems ok? Has anyone seen this before? If so is it a nightmare job?

Re: 94 passport heater core

If you're lucky, the leak might be at the heater hoses, where they enter the firewall. In which case, you might be able to patch up the hoses. Otherwise, if the leak is in the core, you're looking at pulling apart the dash to get to the heater core, which is situated towards the center of the dash. You'll have to disconnect the evaporator lines and remove the evaporator housing to get to the core. You'll also want to drain the coolant before doing anything. It's all doable if you take your time.

Re: 94 passport heater core

thanks for the reply.. those hoses are located on the passenger side firewall correct?.. they seemed to look ok. the leak seems to be more on the drivers side/center..I also have a problem with my 91 accord 4 cyl.. (what a weekend) seems like no spark to me. My daughter was driving it yesterday no problems at all. It rained last night/this morning.. shes goes out to start it and it just cranks like its outta gas.. COIL maybe.. I'm clueless with these hondas. I just bought both of them this spring for the reliabilty and now both are down..

Hmmm. Maybe your leak is not from the firewall but rather the coolant hoses under the intake. It may be spilling onto the firewall. Check out this thread:

Re: 94 passport heater core

Also check the hoses from the coolant manifold way behind the engine. They head toward the heater core, but start at the center rear of the engine.

Also, there are freeze plugs at the back of the engine hidden by the tranny housing.

Re: 94 passport heater core

hey thanks... i found a pinhole leak on a hose right behind the top of the engine..more to the drivers side center. The haines manual mentions nothing about it and I really cant figure what it does?? Comes out of ....probably the coolant manifold you speak of and heads foward .....like foward through the bottom of the throttle body and eventually re connects with the main top radiator hose. it looks like a prick to get to in the back. You know what it is? so I can splain it when i'm trying to get the replacement? auto zone dude was clueless but I guess I can just fab something in there once I get the bad one out?.. THANKS AGAIN

Re: 94 passport heater core

I went out and took a look. It does come off the coolant manifold and goes to the bottom back side of the TB, like you said. I didn't try to fab something up and I don't think anybody but the dealer will have that hose. I got mine from St. Charles Isuzu in MO. Search for the 800# or go to your local Isuzu or Honda dealer.

It's tricky to get in there. There is a spring type clamp on the end of it. It was easy for me because I had the intake off. You might try loosening motor mounts and jacking it if you can't get your hands in there.

Re: 94 passport heater core

Here it is with the intake removed. You can see the clamp at the base.
