what is this little box???

ok, i just bought a 97. The headlights dont work and i have read about that alittle bit so i will get back to you after i try a few things. But before i do i want to know if its related to this thing under the drivers side dash unpluged. All it says on it is 25640703 and PPL. Something to do with the lights perhaps?

UPDATE:
plugged the box in and the lights come on, however the box makes all kinds of popping noises. like popcorn kind of. thats just with the lights OFF, if the lights are turned on there is not poping noise. replace the box?? (auto headlamp module)


to conclude:
Ok went back out and cleaned the connections, and boy or boy i love this site! it saves me big time!
