Angry Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

Well, I went to the Dr. a couple of days ago and had problems of back pain (which i've had for about 6 months) and red urine. After much poking proding and a piss test I now know I have a bunch of fucking kidney stones. Until about a month ago, I drank nothing but soda, tea and coffee. Now I can only drink water and juice. The best part of the deal is I frequently wake up in the middle of the night with pains in my kidney area so bad I could puke.I've had 5 concussions, stitches 7 times, broken 9 bones and had 1900 pounds of steel drooped on my leg and none of it hurt this bad. There is nothing they can give me for pain because most of that shit is bad for your kidneys anyway so I get to just live with it. The constant dull ache dosen't bother me but The feeling of someone driving a nail through me side fuckin' sucks. And lets not forget the caffene withdrall. Anyone else have any experience with this and can tell me what kind of other fun stuff I can look forward to?

Re: Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

I'm curious as to why tea and coffee cause kidney stones. I was wondering why your doctor said not to drink tea or coffee. Tea and coffee are mostly made up of water, whereas I can see how soda can cause kidney stones with all of it's additives. From what I've read, kidney stones are generally caused by excess calcium intake,a diet high in protein and low in fiber, certain medical conditions, and hereditary factors. I do know that oxalate, which is found in tea, can be a factor, but there are other foods higher in oxalate that should be avoided,(chocolate, spinach, and other green leafy vegetables.
Perhaps in the future your doctor might allow you to resume consumption of tea, coffee, and soda, providing you also balance it out with adequate amounts of water, which helps to flush out the kidneys.
The very fact you mention kidney stones and the consumption of those beverages scares me because I mostly drink sun tea, and iced coffee in the summer. My family used to drink soda quite a bit but 2 years ago we made the switch gradually to drinking sun tea, and fruit juices. I try to increase water intake because I know it's good for my body, but sometimes it's hard. Reading your post makes me want to drink more water on a daily basis to head off any potential occurence of kidney stones.

Re: Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

Well tea and coffee have caffein. caffein is a diuretic so it makes you pee more. since he needs to drink alot of water this would be a bad effect. i'm sure that if he could drink enough water he could balance it out. also your doctor should probably have told you to avoid alcohol, it's another diuretic.

can't you get those things smashed with an ultrasound or something? then they just "pass through you" although it also means you have to pee it out, which is HORRIBLE. I've known a few people with kidney stones and i don't want t scare you but they say that peeing them out is the most painful thing they've ever experienced.

Re: Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

My Dr. said that there are two kinds of stones. One is formed from calcium and the other is formed by caffein. The calcium ones are the worst. They form into crystals and are very jagged were the caff. ones are like rocks. And beef_burrito, in my eyes the ultra sound bust-em-up method is the only way to get rid of these things cause they ain't coming near me with that roto-ruter. And I didn't mention alcohol cause I stopped drinking years ago but I had a nurse mention at work that a beer a day can slow down or eleminate the formation of stones so I may start drinking again. UntilI get rid of these bastards I ain't drinking any caffinated drinks so it's water and cranberry juice for me until further notice. I have lost five pounds in the deal though so it ain't all bad.

according to wikipedia cranberry juice is another diuretic so you'll need to drink more water if you drink cranberry juice than if you drank some other kind of juice.

So you haven't taken particularly good care of your health, ignored all the suggestions about how much water VS soda you should drink and now you have health problems? Funny that.

you'll be fine. if you drink enough water you shouldn't have any problems. the problems come when you don't allow your body to flush out crap, so if you drink coffee and other diuretics and don't drink enough water. also some people are just prone to having them, some people will never get em nomatter how bad their diet is. it's all about genetics and lifestyle, it's not going to be one thing that causes you to have kidney stones, it'll be a whole slew of things.

Re: Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

Sorry to go off topic for a moment, but it is kind of related to this thread.

It kills me how these "health groups" come out with reccomendations almost on a weekly basis, and then the following week or month another "study" comes out and debunks the first reccomendation(s). Case in point, for years we've been told to consume at least 8 - 8oz glasses of water a day. And they say "WATER". Now, a few months ago, I read a report and saw it on tv that they still reccomend you get at least 8 glasses of water a day, but now they are saying it doesn't matter how you get it. You could get it from milk, coffee, tea, soda, etc, as long as you also drinksome water during the day. Even one of my doctors said they claim you can also include certain foods you eat when you add up the amount of fluid intake in a day because some foods have such a high water content. It seems that this problem is getting worse as the years go by and it's hard to believe some of the things you read and the studies that they do.

Re: Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

I am now drinking a half gallon of juice and a gallon of water a day. I am pissing so much that you would think there wouldn't be anything left in my kidneys but no such luck. It just seems weird to piss strawberry coolaid all day let alone the fact that I can't get very far from a restroom.

Re: Soda can kick you in the nuts!!!!!!!

Ok so I go through about half a gallon of skim milk on average, I drink a good amount of water, but not nearly as much as I do milk, maybe a couple glasses a day. Ive done this for years and years but Ive never had problems, Im turning 19 on wednesday, is it possible Ill get these problems? I drink coffee once in a while, maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks but i drink sweet tea when I go out to eat which is usually 3 times a week on average. Thoughts are very much appreciated.
