Need some guidance

Is there a thread or a site that has step by step instructions on how to replace the intake gasket? I need a parts list. Also need the torque specs for the intake bolts. I don't want to waste a lot of time removing thing I don't need to.

Re: Need some guidance

So then, why do you think you need a head gasket? Anyway invest in a Haynes or Chilton manual. It will serve you well. It is a job that you want to take time with and do well. Also, use the Trouble Shooter intakes - not the crap the dealership will sell you. And use the Black RTV.

Re: Need some guidance

I don't need a head gasket???? I need the intake gaskets.

I am strapped for cash right at this moment. I figured if some one had the step by step instructions I could bypass the book till later. Where do I get the Trouble Shooter gasket set?

Re: Need some guidance

Once you take the lower intakes off, you are a few bolts from the head gasket. What a pity to replace the intakes and a year or so, have to replace the head gaskets!

Haynes or Chilton manual
Chilton was never good, Haynes was once. Cars are too complex now, the factory manual is 3 big books. Now tell me how they get 3 big books into a 150 page manual ? Go to ebay I bought the 3 book set that costs $120 from Helm for $30 on ebay, for my 98 malibu. When replacing the lower intake, you will need a floor jack to un do your motor mount and to take off the power steering pump there are holes in the pulley.
why do you thinkyour lower needs doing ?

Re: Need some guidance

I have a slight coolant leak, about a expasion tank full every week or so. I see water under the throttle body, and the engine is wet where the tranny mounts. So far none in the oil. I hope it is just the temp sending unit leaking since I know for a fact that it has had a small leak for some time. Maybe I will get lucky and just replace it. But I feel I should be prepared for the worst. I just wanted to know if someone had the steps to change the intake gaskets, like a link to some free pictures or something.

Re: Need some guidance

Sounds like the intake gasket. You will need to:
1 - take aoff all that you can see, and
2 - take off tyhe rest of the lower intake stuff, and
3 - take off the power steering stuff and passenger sidemotor mount

In other words, Chilton or Haynes. You don't need the "big book" to do this job.

Re: Need some guidance

this is a much bigger job than I thought it was going to be. I attempted to do it this weekend (without a manual, O'reilly's couldn't get one until Tuesday and I needed to fix it by Tuesday) I'm going to have to have a moonlighter do it tomorrow.

Re: Need some guidance

Have you done any detailed work like this before? You seemed to have stopped dancing before the music got good!
