1994 Buick Regal Please Help

Hello boys, I'm writing because my grandpa is having trouble with his car. He's super duper when it comes to car stuff but this one's giving him trouble. So, here goes. He has a 1994 Buick Regal. He went to start it today and it clicked and the speedometer jumped up to 137 mph. It won't start. So, he turned the key off and the speedometer just stayed at 137mph. He's been trying stuff all day and can't get it to start. I just talked to him on the phone and he said, that the speedometer dropped down a few times and back up as he kept trying it. He told me he thinks it's probably something else causing the speedometer thing. ...maybe something electrical. As I've said, he's great with cars, but he misses the good old days where cars were simple. lol The computer stuff throws him off. anyway, if anyone has any suggestions. i would love to pass the info. off to him. thanks, in advance, for any and all replies. Sincerely, Andrea
P.s. the engine size is 3.8 and the transmission type is automatic. thanks again.

I'd be looking at the neutral safety switch, which is on top of transmission/driver side. Try putting in Neutral to see if it starts.
I just recently had this same issue, and you guessed it NSS. Took mine apart and cleaned out all the goo, and lightly scuffed up all the copper lines. Push in the cable/harness first before you dismantle it tho', notorious bad connection.
good luck
