Can camber be adjusted on a civic?
I have a 1991 Civic 4 door sedan. I have a problem with the front tires wearing on the inside of the tire. From my research, this tells me that it is a problem with camber. However, my research also states that camber on most front wheel drive cars cannot be adjusted and that the problem is the result of a worn or broken part.
So, my questions are, can the camber be adjusted on a civic? If not, it would not surprise me that the reason for my problem is a bent or broken part as I went up on a curb late last fall. If this is my problem, is it something I can fix? I am not a mechanic, however, I can and have done a lot of my own maintenance on the car (change radiator, valve cover & gaskets, spark plugs, distributor, exhaust system, brake pads, etc.). Any advice will be appreciated. Greg |

Re: Can camber be adjusted on a civic?
Is your car lowered? That would be the most likely reason why you have so much negative camber that the inside of your tires are wearing faster. You can buy a camber kit to adjust it, but it doesn't have camber adjustability stock.

If you nailed a curb, and the problem has been more apparent since then, I would start looking at the tie rods, then at a possible bent control arm.

Re: Can camber be adjusted on a civic?
camber is not always the cause of wear on the inside of tires.
toe can also destroy a tire very quickly. i sudjest you take it to a shop and get an alignment the proper way, they will be able to tell you the rest from there.

Re: Can camber be adjusted on a civic?
Thanks for the posts. No, my car is not lowered. I suspect I damaged the tie rods when I went up on the curb. Regardless, looks like I will have to break down and take it to the shop.
Thanks again, Greg |
