Re: Almost every single RX-8 recall!!!

I'm sure its because of dumbass owners and not the car itself.

Re: Almost every single RX-8 recall!!!

maybe not, u know the rotary is finicky to begin with, and this one is alot more hp, so being the first year, u know theres gonna b some issues. my friend has one and its fine as far as i know. i guess the customers might not realize the car eats oil and they arent checking it......

Re: Almost every single RX-8 recall!!!

Meh. I bet some of those owners drive the piss out of their car.. with a rev limit that high, it's hard not to shift below 6000 rpm! Just because you can.. doesn't mean you should. Of course, there are other reasons and misinformation that is pushing this recall. I commend Maxda, though. As far as I know, the 'X' stands for experimental (or sport for you non-believers haha), it's simply an experiment and to stick with rotars for so long just shows the determination the company has with it. If Mazda does a good job with the recall, who gives a shit. You'll have a fresh motor that wont start on fire... so I don't see what the issue is. It is way better than crankwalking your DSM and not have your company do a recall on it. Remember, no matter how bad you think it is.. it could be worse.

Re: Almost every single RX-8 recall!!!

ok... here's the recall breakdown.
and yea, i'm a tech at a dealer so i'm not making this up or guessing like others may be. this is not from some news blip or some bullshit website.
here goes...

THIS RECALL IS NOT FOR NEW ENGINES!!

The recall has technicians reprogramming the powertrain control module.
The recall has technicians testing catalyst efficency.
The recall has technicians replacing spark plugs ONLY ON SOME CARS.

If the car has had a previous, unrepairable, SEVERE LACK OF POWER OR LOW IDLE CONERN, then an engine, after testing, may be required.

So, unless your car barely runs, or has a SEVERE LACK OF POWER, all you're getting out of this recall is a pcm reprogram. Seeing as the spark plugs have already been replaced on most rx8's at delivery or during a hard start concern, and most rx8's have already had recalls that call for nothing more than a pcm reprograms... don't get upset about this recall.

It seems that people hear the word "engine" and assume that they're getting a new one for free... and while i'm sure that some cars will need one i'm very confident that the vast and vast majority will need nothing more than a pcm reprogram and a cat efficentcy check.

nothing new.

I agree that people dont understand the rotary engine, & that it consumes oil. I still love the RX-7/8.

Re: Almost every single RX-8 recall!!!

its not the owners but the car itself. you have to drive the piss out of it or else the apex and side seals will start to stick and cause lose of compression. we see alot of the automatics with this problem because the drivers don't rev that high. very little 6speeds have these problem. the recall mention above is correct every bit of it. oh and you will get a free car wash and a full tank of gas with your new motor too. but i don't think the recall will fix the problem. this like the 3rd or more pcm update on this car. your powertrain warrenty is also extended.

OK, the recall is to take the car in for a series of tests, and if the engine in any car fails the tests, it gets replaced.

And anyway, anyone that buys a rotary engined car with anything behind it except a manual transmission is an idiot. I don't even know why they made that car in automatic.

and uh L-spec, reving the shit out of the engine is what you're SUPPOSED to do.

They made the Autos so they could sell more units, also you need to redline the RX-8 at least once a day, because with the rotaries you can get alot of build-up inside the engines due to the oil and fuel since they both are injected directly onto the rotars

you do, that is an essential part of the break in period and the reason for it is because when you drive around at a low rpms not enough oil and air is injected into the engine there for causing the rough idle and engine flooding that is common in misused rotaries. The new flash that comes with the recall is to lean out the fuel a bit so you have less of a chance to flood and have less problems during idle and it also injects more oil into the engine.

As stated before this recall was for all cars BUT the engine replacement is mainly for the autos because they cant rev as high as the manuals do. I took mine in and they replaced the battery with a bigger one, replaced the cat, and gave me the upgraded flash.

does that happen when you do a lot of high way driving (flooding of the engine) my budys rx7 rear end rattles a lot when he comes off the high way around turns dont know if thats it or what????

No engine flooding is when you have too much fuel in your engine and it hasnt had time to go anywhere, that usually occurs when you start the car and dont give it time to warm up before you shut it off, I misphrased it in my previous post. The recall leaned out the fuel to help prevent engine flooding.

Flooding the engine makes it difficult to start it back up the next time you try to turn it on.
