Steering Problem

Hey I have a 2001 alero and I am having a problem with the steering. It seems like it wants to lock while turning a curve on occasion. When you go to turn the wheel back straight it won't turn. It will scare you to death. Anyway it seems like this only happens while accelerating such as up a hill or something. When you let off the gas and press the brake it will turn back normally. We have had lots of problems with this car. Hubs on both sides and blower motor resistor. Also the security light starting problem. If you have any ideas your help would be greatly appreciated. Oh this does only happen on occasion so it is hard to pinpoint anything wrong. Thanks again

Re: Steering Problem

That doesn't sound good. Have you had any prior service work done on the rack and pinion steering gear or any accident involving the front end?

Re: Steering Problem

None at all. Only replaced the wheel hubs several times and replaced one tie rod end a while back. Thanks.

The only part that could cause that problem is the rack and pinion. There is a GM TSB out on certain GM "N" body cars having binding or weird steering problems.
