Fuel Pressure

I have recently installed a fuel pressure gauge on my 98 eclipse gs n/t and the fuel pressure ranges from 48 psi to 60 psi. Is this normall for it to vary in psi all the time. If not how can you fix it so that it is constant.

Re: Fuel Pressure

I don't know about a n/t setups but in the turbo setups, the stock fuel pressure solenoid will raise fuel pressure with the rising boost... I believe its a 1:1 ratio for our cars... I wouldn't think that it would be the same for a n/t but it very well could be I suppose.

Did you run an electronic or mechanical fuel pressure gauge and what did you tap into if you are running the stock FPS still?

Re: Fuel Pressure

it's an elactronical gauge the pressure sender unit is on the end of my fuel rail. i have a fuel line hose conneting my fuel pressure sender to the fuel rail with hose clamps on both ends. I checked and when the car is running there is no fuel leaking at all.

Re: Fuel Pressure

Well if there is no leaks and its using the proper sender for signal then it must be normal for a n/t dsm as well...

Can I ask why you did this?

Re: Fuel Pressure

Pressure is supposed to be a 47-50 at idle without vacuum. It will vary as engine speed goes up because of the amount of fuel flowing. Does it vary at one speed, or will it stay at 48 at idle and go up to 60 during driving?

Now that sounds like somethings wrong... 12psi is a heck of a lot of a difference...

I wonder if his fuel pump is gettin ready to bite the dust...

Re: Fuel Pressure

On an NT car fuel pressure should only drop from base pressure, 1:1, same as turbo cars. But it should not be going up, for obvious reasons. It has to drop with vacuum, otherwise the injectors will appear "bigger" the higher the vacuum goes, so the fact that is is changing is in itself normal. Being higher than base seems unusual to me. I would double check base pressure (vac hose removed).
