A new project for a customer, basically giving me creative control. Just wanted a Wimbledon White '64 Galaxie, drag car, with a SOHC 427. The SOHC parts are in the mail from R&D Resin. In the meantime, the body:

fast? pfft... I have like 5 on the go, but only one is nearing completion!

Russ, this will likely have no clear. I tend to avoid clear unless I need it (ie. metallics...) I'd rather just lay thick colour coats and polish those.

I always clear, I guess it is a personal preference. Since I've started using the Urethane clear, there has been no polishing required.

What I don't understand is why ur

Looking good. These '64 Galaxies are gorgeous, but harder to find in kit form these days. What are you using for a donor chassis? I had to use a '60 Starliner for the chassis and engine (mine was stock) thanks to some good advice from here.

Nice, I remember seeing these racing against tiny Fiat 500 Abarths in classic saloon car racing. The Galaxie was obviously much quicker down the straight bits but the little Fiats caught it up in the corners! It was great to watch.

Very nice, there is a great 500 on musclecarcalender.com also in white. Has anyone got the Thunderbolts of these? I have!

Because there are a lot of automotive enthusiasts who have no time, patience or skill to do it themselves. Think about the number of car guys you've met in your travels who say "ya I got a kit of this in my closet, been meaning to get to it..." for like 10 years. And when they do, because they're not model builders like us, they don't take the time or effort required to put out a really good result.

Thanks. The body is from an old AMT "Masters" kit from the 80s (the ones that came in those small boxes no wider than the body) I found on ebay in England. Surprisingly the shipping was pretty fair. The rest of the kit is an absolute disaster. It's curbside and has very poor detail. So I'm using the usual AMT "Millenium Edition" '63 Galaxie for the rest of the build.

The Thunderbolt was a Fairlane. Mid-size chassis.

I just saw a thunderbolt at a car show 2 days ago,
aren't those the racing versions of the fairlanes?
Think so.

Bare metal Foil work is done. Learn something new every day--my old BMF wouldn't stick and was sliding around the body, it sucked. Turns out the adhesive wears off with age. Bought a new sheet. Problem solved. My BMF work now looks like it used to

Looks good so far. I really like the white. Good job on the foil.
