Miss?
A friend of mine told me that while he was sitting in my car with the engine running, he could feel it "missing." I observed this as well. What could be the culprit and what are some solutions. Plugs/wires? (BTW this was in my '93)

Re: Miss?
I haven't had much work done on the old luminator in the past few years. When we first bought it, the plugs were replaced, that was 80K and 4+ years ago. The car ('93) was purchased with 105K and the plugs looked like they were still the originals. The mechanic couldn't believe that the car was running. The first day I drove it, it would sputter and die and had lots of black smoke. I guess there was a lot of work done because it's basically run fine ever since. I guess the plugs could very easily be the culprit. I'd say mine is also a small stutter rather than a miss. It runs fine 90% of the time, so I'm not too worried. I will probably do what you did as far as cleaning goes.

Re: Miss?
It is not that unusual for then to exhibit a little instability at idle, just enough you can tell it's running, due to how lean they are tuned to idle...anything worn just amplifies it. Especially like plugs and wires, yes. The IAC is suspect as well, but my motto "Don't fix what ain't broke".
What kinda plugs did the '93 have in it? The Delco platinums from the factory in my '97 came out at 115,000, running great and no issues, just thought it was time...I still have them in my tool box, they look fine.... |

Re: Miss?
I didn't get too involved in that deal. I had just gotten my license and didn't know much about cars. I still don't know a whole lot, but I have a lot more interest than I did back then. So I'm not sure what kind of plugs were in there or even what kind are in there now.

A very handy free program for dealing with pics and formats... For the money, the OE Delco/Packard wires are the best you're gonna find. If you put AZ Duramags on it, I'll come to your house and bitchslap you... And always OE type Delco in chevys...upgrade to platinum if you want, it will appreciate it... |
