Another Re-Wire Update

Got all the trunk and engine hooked up. Tried it, and everything that is supposed to work (is actually hooked up) WORKS!

Problem areas:
-Jackass who had it before me rigged the brake switch/brake rod, need to buy new.
-Can't find schematics on how to wire the Headlight / Dimmer switch - old one was spliced so many times I couldn't fiugure out what came from where, etc.
-I have too many wires going to the wiper switch. Need schematics on that one too. I don't think I've messed anything up, I believe one may be a ground, but not sure which one.

I've decided to leave it apart until I can do it right. I was going to put the stock gauges back in, etc, but am leaning towards leaving it parked until I get everything fixed properly, including the compression issue, which means she's done for the year. If I get it running just to make sure EVERYTHING works right, maybe I'll post up a vid.

Re: Another Re-Wire Update

Have you ever thought about getting one of those Chilton books. I don't think that is how you spell it. Those books have alot of diagrams and stuff. I think your better off waiting like your doing why do it two or three times. Just do the job once and be done and not have to take the dash apart again. Your car will be one sweet ride when its all done...

You're right on the spelling.

As far as I know, Chilton doesn't actually get into the minute details such as the headlight switch and wiper switch pigtails. If they do I may just pick one up, but my problem is that probably about 65% of the car is original, and that's just like the body, seats, some of the interior, etc. All this I KNOW is not original : Engine, trans, rear, brakes, steering column, master cylinder, (the old wiring harness i just ripped out), the dash, among other things. Even if I got a Chiltons manual, I wouldn't even know what to get one for. The motor is out of a 74 Monte, etc.

I think I'm better off waiting and taking the time to get it right too, but I'm going crazy not being able to drive it. Got some awesome ideas for the interior... but I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of aluminum welding needed to get the look I want. I just hate to have it unfinished for so long... I am honestly not exepcting it to be road worthy until after April of 07. DAMMIT!

That is a long time to wait. That would be like a kid waiting 5 min to open presents at christmas...Good luck with it.

I will try to do some research for a good book on that for you unless you already looked then I will not even try. Let me know if you want me to look...

Re: Another Re-Wire Update

Well... If you're good at sniffing those kinds of things out, YEAH! I've looked at the parts stores and all, I can only find stuff like Hayes, and they help a little, but only cover the generic stuff.

If you can find diagrams/schematics and info on the electrical stuff (wiper pigtail and what wires/connectors are for what, and the same for the headlight switch, etc) that would be great. I'm not too sure that actual BOOKS are gonna help, but if you come across anything you think might help I will definitely look into it. I kinda suck at finding stuff unless it's videos of bull-fighting midgets getting porked by the bull, and goofy shit like that.

Re: Another Re-Wire Update

I may be in left field here, but the column you have in there, dosen't it have the column mounted diimmer (hi/lo beam) switch on it? Most cars of that era have a foot activated switch on the floor.

You lost me on the brake switch and rod.......

The wiper switch, dioes the motor have delay?

If you're going to park it for that long, you might get some help road trip

Does have a floor switch... I'm talking about the pigtail that goes to the dash dimmer switch... the one with like 8 wires coming out of it... they go to the: headlights, parking lights, tail lights, courtesy lights, dash lights, instrument lights, etc.

The brake lights switch that is activated by the pedal. It's cylindrical thing that is mounted above and in front of the pedal and is activated when the pedal is pressed / not pressed. The guy fabricatd a piece of aluminum as a fix because the rod that goes from the brake pedal to the diaphragm thing on the master cylinder is about 1/4" to 1/2" too short (I think). If the rod is the correct length, then perhaps he put the switch from a different model chevy in it, or it's stripped really bad???

Has the fast, slow, off and wash button on it. Pigtail has 4 leads coming out of it. 2 all black, one light blue, one dark blue. I have a power wire from tyhe new harness, and 3 wires coming from the motor itself, a light blue, dark blue and black with a yellow stripe. Which wire goes where?
