electrical problem 92 stealth rt
i just bought a 1992 dodge stealth rt and i have a couple of problems. dunno if they are related.
First of all the stereo(stock), and the a/c unit don't save the settings when the car turns off. Second - the dom lights, door lights, trunk and hood lights don't turn on at all. third - headlights don't go down when i turn off the engine before turning off the lights. i checked all the fuzes and they all look ok. are there any wires i should check? i have no idea what to do |

2) so you've checked the fuses in the cabin by the drivers left foot? there are also fuses under the hood next to the passenger headlight. i would also check the plug connections for those lights (that is, the connectio in the door, in the trunk, the hood, and dome. while you're in there, check the bulbs. HOWEVER, since all those lights aren't working at the same time, that points to one problem somewhere. fuse, relay, or maybe ETACS system...maybe. 3) this is normal. if you have the lights on (popped-up), and turn the car off, the lights go off but remain in popped position. to make them go down, simply turn them off using the twist switch on the steering column before or after turning the car off.

Re: electrical problem 92 stealth rt
i fixed the interior lights problem. the "room" fuse was loose in the socket and that's why the interior lights were not on.
I'm still having a problem with the stereo and a/c not saving the settings though thanks for the help guys |

Re: electrical problem 92 stealth rt
i just recalled, there IS a fuse in the back of the stock stereo. you might check it. you have to pull it from the console: with flat head screwdriver, pry out the plastic surround, then there are 4 screws that hold the radio in.
....however, i'm sure its all related and not specific little problems in each area.

Re: electrical problem 92 stealth rt
Personally I think someone was screwed up the wiring in the ingition or center console and it powering the stereo and climate control off the switched lead instead of the constant power lead.
Unfortunately I can't help you there because you will need to trace the leads from the ignition to the stereo and then find out what happened to the constant power lead (bad aftermarket alarm install?) |

Re: electrical problem 92 stealth rt
trust me, it is DEFINITELY a fuse. In the fixing of a wrecked 92 RT I ran into the same issues. The lights would only work when the car was started, the radio wouldnt come on, the interior lights and buzzer didnt work, the DCC wouldnt hold memory, nothing. I traced, traced, traced and could find nothing wrong. I sat up on 3si for 6 hours searching one night till I finally figured it out. It had to do with the IOD plug-in in the underhood fuse box. It wasnt making full connection.
There are a few different fuses that could blow to cause those issues too though. One is the battery fusible link underhood. There are a few in the cabin fuse box as well. Thats why I said check EVERY fuse.

Re: electrical problem 92 stealth rt
What bugs me is if it was a fuse then the radio should not come on at all... Not just that the memory was being erased...
Mind you I don't use a stock head unit and aftermarket ones don't power off the switched power. |

Re: electrical problem 92 stealth rt
Then you have it wired wrong. The yellow wire on the aftermarket headunit is the 12v constant. The red is the accesory switch. If you reverse those then it wont turn off when you shut the car off.
