Hi there,
Need your help. I have a 98 Nissan Altima. I can't open the trunk either by pull the handler or use the key. I try WD 40. It won't work. Any suggest? Thanks in advance. David |

Re: 98 Nissan Altima can't open trunk
Well if the manual handle isn't working you have to remove the whole locking mechanism. From what I can remember, I think the thing that turns with the key pulls a string that yanks the locking teeth and releases the hold. Try turning the key while inside the key hole and try lifting the trunk up. If your problem is just starting it should work. I think it's worth a try.
Good Luck. |

Re: 98 Nissan Altima can't open trunk
Before you go disassembling the tumbler mechanism, try ditching the WD-40, which, in a situation like this only makes your problem worse, and go pick up some Tri-Flow or the like, and give that a shot. Hope it works for you.

Re: 98 Nissan Altima can't open trunk
If the key isn't working manually, than it means that something came undone, or broke, we have a bunch of situations like this come into our shop, but there all unique so its hard to diagnose and tell you what your problem, without seeing it.

Re: 98 Nissan Altima can't open trunk
Maybe try a rust & degunk spray, something like liquid wrench, when my hatch stuck on my Cherokee, it free'd it up anof that I could open it with the key, thou I had to turn it a little harder then I liked.
But it worked |
