I need some engine advice

Hey all.. Okay heres my deal, I have a 1990 240SX Hatch, which all of you know comes with the KA24E motor (Single cam, 12 Valve) I missed by one year, in 91 they got the Twin-Cam. I really would LOVE to have a KA24DE but I just don't have the money for a swap right now. Does the single cam KA have any potential and how is it with a turbo with stock internals? Basically what I'm asking is what can this single cam engine handle and what kind of power potential does it have with turbos and such. Almost the same as a KA24DE? I know the Single cam makes around 140HP and 153Ft/Lbs and the Twin-Cam makes 155HP. Are they the same block and are the parts pretty much interchangable? I've heard this motor is pretty strong and such and I wouldn't mind keeping it and rebuilding it. Any advice would be awesome! Thanks!

Re: I need some engine advice

yeah, you can swap over a DE head, but if your engine has alot of miles, your better off just getting a ka24de. if your gonna rebuild it, go for some forged low comp pistons and race rods. after that you should be good daily driving on 400hp... sure you could turbo it! requires upgrading the fuel system which requires getting your ECU tuned ect ect...your sort of forced to upgrade everything... how long things last mostly depends on how good your tune is. btw, USE THE SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: I need some engine advice

the sohc has plenty of potential but not with high mileage, just like he said. in your sig it says 231K... id advise you away from it lol. pick up a twin cam from a junk yard or look on SR forums. SR guys are always looking to get rid of KAs for pretty cheap.

Re: I need some engine advice

Yeah I was thinking with the high mileage it probably wouldn't be wise to turbo it (That is, unless I wanna get another motor and have some fun with this one ) But anyways, I think I'll just try to find a KA24DE somewhere and turbo that. Thanks for the advice guys. Oh, and to the person who suggested I use the search. I'm sorry bout that, Everyone just always talks about the Twin Cam and I wanted to make sure that I got information pertaining to the single cam. I'll try to use the search from now on however

Re: I need some engine advice

the DE head will not bolt directly onto the SOHC block with out modification of the front timing cover. You would need to cut a DE cover in half, and use the right side of it with the left side of a SOHC timing cover. It has been done many times, but takes skill and a good welder. I also am unaware of how this will affect compression. Your best bet is to find a KA24DE and get the DE PS lines and do the swap. Hope this helps...

Re: I need some engine advice

watch this video: http://www.charlestonracing.com/pic/srvska.wmv

then make the wise decision and just order an SR20. There's really no other option unless you want to go RB26 AWD.

no, dont even ask. this kid is an idiot and has no use to be here. he contributes shitty useless information that not only DOESNT help people, it fucks with them. so unless anyone has a question about the newest sandwiches on the dollar menu, refrain from listening to jdmsux for your own safety AND dignity.
