Question more engine swap questions

First off, i searched for a good while to make sure this wasnt touched on and in the end i couldn't find info for my specific situation.

I've had my 95 sl2 for about a year now and fell in love with it. the only bad thing is that for most of that time, it's been half torn apart and up on blocks. the engine gave me the one finger salute shortly after i got it due to a problem with the rings. i dont know quite how bad it is, but im taking (hopefully) the easy way and doing a swap.

A guy that my dad works with has a 96 sl2 that the engine should be fine, but has some screwed valves due to a timing bug. The head off my 95 was gone through and redone a few months before it died. i know that the two are compatible, but im not quite sure what all i'd need to do the swap, or if that engine would even be worth looking into.

the info on the 96 is sketchy but its all my dad gave me to work with.

thanks for the help guys

Re: more engine swap questions

the 95 head will fit the 96 block, no questions asked, but closely inspect the pistons, as well as the thrust bearing if the 96 had a manual transmission. i would also recommend replacing the timing chain, oil pump, ECT, and water pump, if none have been changed before, as well as the minor tune-up parts(belt, plugs, ect....) be sure to reuse ALL of the 95 electionics(sensors, modules, injectiors, ect)

What do you need to know? Saturn is possibly the easiest car made to swap engines. can give you step by step instructions if you want. The complete remove and install of engine assembly can be done in 6 hours. [email protected]

Re: more engine swap questions

its good your using the 95 head as it has 2 sensors for the fan/pcm and gauge. the only differences you will come across are the heads between those motors.
