gmc 2500HD drive line clunk

My 2004 GMC 2500 HD 6.0 liter gas crew cab has a clunk when leaving a stop. It is as if a round of slack is unwinding before full traction is released.
Weird. I heard that the xmsn can be re-programed by downshifting from 55 mph into 1st and rolling to a stop then to D. I tried it and all seems well at this point.

Does anybody know what he's talking about?

Re: gmc 2500HD drive line clunk

I have this problem, I leave a stop and I hear a clunk in the rear-end, My truck is a 1500 ext cab - It seems to me there is alot of slack in the drive-line and when it catchs it make a hell of a noise.

I was told by a dealer that's it very common and the problem is the yolk on the drive shaft, It needs to be greased, inside and outside. It's a common issue that is nothing but annoying.

I took it to the dealer and he removed the drive shaft and greased the spline.
It makes sense. Now it runs smooth as it should.

Re: gmc 2500HD drive line clunk

I read a TSB stating the yoke slip/stick prob. for the 1500's.
and it said to replace TC fluid with Autotrak 2 (blue) PN 12378508
to solve prob. I've seen people say regreasing was only temporary.
My truck does the same thing but I haven't got to the new fluid yet.
This prob. is also confused with an inherent driveline slack issue.

I meant to say it was a prob. on the CK's. I believe
the newer models already have the updated fluid
