3.1 interchange

can i use a 2002 grand prix 3.1 in my 96 beretta it has a 3.1 im wondering what will need to be changed or if it is even possible to switch the motors

Welcome to AF. The 02 Grand PRix engine is a Vin-J, and your 96 is a Vin-M. There are many obstacles that would make this swap difficult at best. The subtle differences are too numerous to mention here (the EGR mount and throttle body are just two). I'm not saying it can't be done, but I'd try to find a 96-99 Vin-M, that way it should just bolt in.
