Question Is this even a problem?

I noticed that the fan on my 01 XLS seems to be on all the time, I know it is a hot summer but it seems odd to me, and I have never notcied this before and I am sure it has to be hurting my MPG also. If it is abnormal what could be the problem/fix. Is it possible to recharge the AC freon with the cans of freon they sell? any help would be appericated, thank you

P.S. it has 98k mi on it.

Re: Is this even a problem?

I am assuming your fan is electric. My guess would be a relay stuck in the open postion. Look in your manual for the location of the relay. If it is in the box with the other relays and fuses just pull the horn relay out and put it in the fan slot to test it. IF it is mounted outside the box then you need to get a new relay to test it. You could also have a bad temperature sensor. Your manual should tell you how to test it. It is possible to be the gauge cluster causing the probelm but is unlikely, again your manual should tell you how to test it.

As for the AC, yes just go get a can at your local store. You should get a pressure gauge kit, it is worth it. Also if you are low on freon, get the freon without oil. Too much oil won't cool you. I would only add freon with oil if you suspect that you lost the oil.
