steering noise

Hi all,
I have a friend with a Honda Crv that makes a pumping oily howling type noise from somewhere under the hood/bonnet. its loud enough she says that people turn their heads.
it seems to be worst when the car is properly warmed up and is certainly linked to the steering. noise is worst at full lock.
the garage have changed the power steering fluid and say they have checked the wheel bearings, brakes and pump bearings. they are a local garage and now sugest we take it to Honda where I suspect it will have lots of new parts fitted before carrying out a full diagnosis.
any one have any ideas what to suggest we look for next?

Re: steering noise

This is a very simple and common fix. All you need to do is replace the diff fluid. Happens all the time. It is 4WD right?

Re: steering noise

Top marks for this forum! the garage said this was rubbish the noise was the power steeering pump and we should take the car to Honda.
due to infomation gained in this forum we felt sure enough to tell the garage to put new oil in the diff. ( AWD)
Ha! they put in the oil since they think we are nuts and they just want the money but you all know what....... The noise is gone.
My friend who thinks the internet is all for geeks and sad people without lives is regreting her comments and I am d#feeling very smug.
Thanks to you all.
I dont have my own Honda CRV so I may not be back here but I do look in on mercedes w124 and triumph motorcycles and do try to do my bit in those forums when I can.
