Need a car for work, suggestions?

I just got my first car by means of an inheritance. It's a 1994 Buick Regal.
So far I've spent 100 dollars getting in professionally cleaned (The interior looked like a bio-hazard threat). My friend is coming over sometime next week to fix the broken trunk and take out the dent in the front left fender.

I don't know much about the history of the car since my Grandfather didn't really talk about it much. All I know is it has a new fuel pump, he had the transmission rebuilt, and new brakes put on.

Now to my question, I'm getting a job driving my own car for a delivery service and I was wondering if you think I should try to sell this car for maybe 2-3 grand + an addtional 2,000 I have saved up to get something more a little realiable and fuel efficient (and if so, I'm open to suggestions as to what I should get) or should I just stick with what I have?

The car has around 180,000 KM on it.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Need a car for work, suggestions?

well i deliver pizza for a living

I personally would do both.

I have no confidence you would get even $1000 for a 94 buick.

in perfect condition mind you shining with no rust lookin brand new.

I would save for a used japanese car and drive this one to its demise. Almost no one would buy it from you. Its value is higher to you if you can make money on its dying days.

I mean, you want some entertainment put about $750 obo on a sign on it and see if you get a call. Just to give yourself a better idea.

On the used market I prefer japanese cars that arent the most popular.

Such as the nissan sentra, mazda protege, mitsubishi mirage, ummm.... suzuki esteem i guess, suzuki swift etc

not the honda civic or toyota corrolla because they end up costing too much although those are fine.

if youre going to drive for a living you need two cars anyway. I mean, youll have to buy the 2nd car while you have one at the very least.

a mitsu or suzuki will cost you more in the long run aka maintenence than a civic or corolla which you will prolly never have to work on beside from reg. maintenence.

I have no data that shows this. Based on consumer reports. Oh I mean if it gets new enough try to find the toyota echo thats tops of reliability for economy class. When was the last time you saw one for sale? If it costs too much its not worth it.

I mean actually let me be more clear. The honda civic and toyota corrolla are rated higher than the mitsubishi mirage or suzuki esteem I recomended. But not by much.
Each used car is a unique story. But the outset cost for a toyota corrolla on the used market compared to a mitsubishi mirage is fairly large. The average person looks through the used car section and they read toyotas for sale, then hondas, then they put it down. Any good deal on those is sold the first day.

Suzuki esteem, its a different story. Suzukis are great but unfortunately by this time they are assembled in north america and use a lot of north american auto parts. Like my geo metro the suzuki engine is at 130 km and burns no oil like its new. But things like wiring clutch parts, body... they are all actually related to the chevy cavalier.

So I dont have any shining story on one but I bet you could find one for next to nothing. Theyre a lot better than they cost, thats what you want.

now suzuki swift, is made in japan. Its all confusing.
