why get big brake kit?

ok, so i was thinking, alot of people put the brakes off a GSX into their GST, right? well, THe brakes off a 3000GT VR4 where 13" rotors, and thats the same as a "big Brake Kit", my question is this, will the 4 piston VR4 calipers bolt up to my eclipse? also, besides the calipers, pads, and roters, what else would i need to make this set up work? and is it going to be worth the time to do it? or should i just get the Baer brake kit from SBR?

I believe the brake lines are differant....but they will fit on your car...

here is a link to the lines that you need...all the way at the bottom

Re: why get big brake kit?

Not a direct bolt on. You need an adapter plate. Check the articles on tuners. Theres a pretty good writeup. IMO those 13" rotors and 4 pistons calipers are way overkill unless you are pretty seriously into autoX or road racing.

Re: why get big brake kit?

Wait a minute... So the only difference is in fact the brake lines here? From what I read there, they sell a brake line adapter? Heck, screw that. I would just throw some ss braided lines from the calipers to the proportioning valve.

Re: why get big brake kit?

ok, and where could i get ahold of an adapting plate? i'm debating on either the 4 piston (VR4) or just the Regular 2 piston (SL) brakes, both calipers are about the same price on Ebay, thats why i asked about the 4 piston (VR4) ones, figured for the same price, should get the ones with the most bite.

Re: why get big brake kit?

I would just get some 2g AWD calipers. No fuckin around to be done to get them on.

Re: why get big brake kit?

with Blackrow. as for the 2g AWD brakes, they are just, well, stock 2g Brakes, i want something better then stock, and dont cost 2K to get. i have been interested in the Baer brake kit for some time now, only thing holding me back is getting that kinda cash on-top of school. so, VR4 callipers via internet, or at the local junk yard are only about $140 a set w/ pads. with say $100 for SS lines, and give or take $50 for this custom mounting bracket you guys keep talking about fabbed up by a friend. then $200 for 13" slotted and Drilled rotors, i'm looking at $500, for those of you who didnt notice, thats about $400 CHEAPER then the 13" big brake kit by Baer, which happens to be the cheapest besides "powerslot" but i dont want that crap. the main reason i dont want to waste my time with the 2g awd brakes is IIRC they where designed for 10" rotors which in my opinion with 400+ WHP, thats a little small, and stoping is rather important. I have no idea if this contraption is even possible, but if it is, i'm very interested! ok, the real question, would VR4 brakes be worth my time? or should i just get the baer brakes and call it done?

Re: why get big brake kit?

I agree on the big brake kits being completely overpriced. I think that if the calipers do fit then that would be the better route to go. Its not that hard to make some SS lines and run em up to everything. Heck I have all my brake system tore apart right now as I am converting to the non-ABS version but I haven't done anything yet with the calipers and rotors and such... I wish I could check out the vr4 brakes up close and personal... Did the vr4's and sl models run the same brakes?... Probably not I'm assuming with the difference of fwd and awd...

Yeah I'm really liking this thread right now. lol

Re: why get big brake kit?

well, the vr4's have 4 piston callipers, while the sl only has 2 pistons... other then that, i think the rotor size is the same. but sl front callipers are the same price as VR4 ones... so why not go for the extra brake force? thats why i bothered to ask about the VR4 ones.

Re: why get big brake kit?

Found this. Nice ass big brakes for only $100 for the calipers, $85 for the rotors, ss lines, some pads, and a bracket sounds good to me.

Re: why get big brake kit?

I love that link... Looks like my project just got one step bigger. Thanks guys.

I'm confused on the offset being different in that little write-up. From the side the rotors look to be the same overall height in the long run. Is it in fact not the same?

Re: why get big brake kit?

Those stock 2g 2 piston AWD rotors brake like all hell, I seriously recommend those. They are cheaper and require no cusomization. Remember though guys, bigger rotors have the same effect on power as big wheels. It increases the unsprung weight and moves the rotational center (or whatever it is) out farther and takes away power. For normal street use and drag racing I would never recommend those. If you are an avid AutoX'er or road racer, have at em. Heres a good site on it, its the 4 piston and 13.1" rotor kit: (tuners is down)

Re: why get big brake kit?

Has anyone actually tried 2g awd slotted and drilled rotors or is everybody running gay stock rotors like me? I for one think they could be a lot better than what they are now... Didn't know if just slotted and drilled rotors would make that big of a difference or not...

Re: why get big brake kit?

I dont think the slotted and drilled rotors actually make the braking distance very much shorter (thats what a good set of pads does) but they cool off quicker to reduce brake fade and allow for more hard braking in a shorter amount of time.
