Tune Up Time

I have a standard 1999 (non police interceptor) Crown Vic. It's been an extremely trouble free vehicle.

I change the oil at 4000 mi religously.

I'm at 120,000 miles now and I think it's time for some TLC.

I always buy a car, take care of it and run the wheels off it into the 175,000 -225,000 miles.

I was going to

- Replace OEM plugs (what kind should I get)?
- Change Fuel Filter
- Transmission Fluid Change
- New spark plug wires (do I need to /what kind should I get)?
- New shocks all around. (any suggestions??)
- Do I need to have the injectors cleaned?
- Anti freeze flush & fill. This has the long life coolant - can I change that myself? Best brand to get?

Lately it's been having a difficult time maintaining an idle lately. I took off and carefully cleaned the mass air flow sensor and that seemed to do the tirck for a while.

Any other items I should be looking at?

Many thanks,

Re: Tune Up Time

I would get factory plugs motorcraft, you don't have wires to my knowledge you coils are over the plugs, And for the injectors I would go to autozone and buy a can of seafoam that stuff works great. As for the idle I would check the voltage at your TPS. I would also think about changing the fuel filter too.

Re: Tune Up Time

Look closely at the boots on the bottom of coils. If they are cracked, dried out, or show signs of spark arcing through them, replace those also. Your idle problem may be the Idle Speed Control solenoid. Ford is famous for these going bad.

Re: Tune Up Time

How about coolant?

My car has the long life type coolant? Is there any trick to flushing the system and putting new long life coolant in?

Mine is a standard CV (Not police) what size spark plug do I use?
