Hi. I just got my 1986 automatic Bronco II back after power steering line repair required it to be towed to the shop. Now, not only does the car hesitate when shifting from park to reverse or drive, but it rolls backwards when in park. Please help me begin to figure this out, as the shop charges a mandatory $100 diagnostic fee & I need info before I call them. Thanks!

Re: BroncoII tranny probs PLEASE HELP
Not positive but could be a few things, were you there when it was towed? Was it on a flat bed or wheel lift. It could have been towed on to truck in gear? Or ( not sure why) but linkage could have been messed up during power steering line repair.

Re: BroncoII tranny probs PLEASE HELP
Its possible that linkage would cause hesitation. One thing I forgot was fluid level. Have you checked it. You tranny fluid could be down some. That would cause your hesitation in shifting. Check the level and also look at fluid, is it really nasty looking. If it is may be time for a change. This wouldn't have much affect on moving when in Park, sense that is done, manually. That why I mentioned linkage. A quick check on linkage would be if your indicator for your gear shift. When you shift from one gear to the other does the dial line up with the letter or is it off some? If your fluid needs changing I would recomend a transmission transfusion. It not only changes your fluid but flushes out your whole transmission and replaces all fluid not just the fluid in the pan. It can be expensive. But it removes alot more junk from the tranny. Hope that this helps. Pete
