I have a 2002 Monte Carlo and I am changing the head gaskets on. I have already purchased the gasket kit and have started to replace the gaskets. The kit gave me the torque specs for the head bolts and no othe bolt specs. Does anybody know the specs for the rocker arm bolts and the intake manifold bolts or know of a website I may be able to download this information?

Re: Bolt Torgue specs
You are correct, engine size would be helpful. It is a 3400 (3.4 liter) V6.
Had this info in the original message but failed to include on the third attempt, still learning to navigate this forum! |

Re: Bolt Torgue specs
I would have guessed the 3.4, since the Buick 231s usually don't have head gasket problems.
While you usually CAN use the old head bolts, it's generally safer to use NEW head bolts. The bolt installation is not a true "torque-to-yield" design, but are really only good for a given amount of stretch. Once installed and subjected to heat cycles, they may not provide adequate clamping on subsequen installations. You probably don't want to go through this exercise again just to try to save $20 on bolts. Also, get some PST sealant for the head and intake bolt threads. The specifications for most years of the OHV (not DOHC) are 41-44 ft/lb through the designated pattern, then an additional 90º of rotation through the pattern. As always, bolt and deck threads must be clean and lightly lubricated to properly torque them. The PST thread sealant will provide adequate lubrication for torqing the bolts, so you only need to be sure both of the sets of threads are clean before applying the sealant. |

Re: Bolt Torgue specs
Thanks for the info on the head bolts. Now I must pick you brain again. Also need the specs for the rocker arm and intake manifold bolts as well. Don't mean to sound like a duffus but finding documentation on a 3.4 Liter V6 has been difficult.

Re: Bolt Torgue specs
If your rocker arms are adjustable, they probably won't have a torque setting, just be aware that you may possibly have to adjust them. Take a trip to your local library, they usually have a set of good auto manuals in the reference section and you can photocopy what you need.
