91 Pontiac Sunbird
My oil pressure is reading low. Can anyone please tell my what would cause this and how to go about checking it.

Low oil pressure readings are usually caused by one of three things.
1. Bad oil pressure guage sending unit. If the car runs good and isn't making any ticking/knocking noises, this is the most likely cause. Replace the sensor, it is located near the oil filter on the front of the engine. 2. Low, dirty or too thin viscosity for driving conditions. Obviously, change the oil and filter. 3. Internal engine problems,(bad oil pump, worn bearings). These will normally cause bad noises to come from the engine (knocking/ticking) and a loss of power. Failure to correct will result in a blown engine.
