Replacing Timing Belt & Water Pump
I recently acquired a 1998 Toyota Camry with 95,000 miles on it and the Timing Belt has not been replaced. I am used to working on trucks (own a '98 Silverado) but these small, foreign cars look difficult to work on at first glance. What kind of job am I looking at here if I want to replace the Timing Belt and Water Pump? Do I need special tools? How can I find out what steps need to be done? How long should it take? If this is a reasonably easy job, what other things can I replace while I am in there?
Thanks. |

Re: Replacing Timing Belt & Water Pump
Welcome to the AF!
Check out the '99 Factory Service Manual linked in the sticky post at the top of this forum. It is directly applicable to your engine and will tell you everything you need to know about the procedure. http://oregonstate.edu/~tongt/camry/99/index.html It is not too difficult, but it will take a while if it is your first time. Replace any leaking shaft seals, replace your water pump (as you said). Test the other components as outlined in the manual.
