96' S-10 4x4 - Possible leaking Front Seal
Hey all-
I am sort of new to the forum and have tried to search for a how to for this. Currently I am leaking from what I believe is the front seal on the engine . I know if I take it to the shop I am going to get raped.Has anyone ever replaced this and if so, can you give me some direction? Much appreciated. |

Re: 96' S-10 4x4 - Possible leaking Front Seal
It should be much to fix it really.
Remove the belt, remove the front crank pully and crank sensor assembly and you should be able to remove and replace at a shop. You sure it is not your oil cooler lines leaking?

Check a manual. I think the seal is integral to the plastic timing cover. If so, you need to change the timing cover to get new seal.

BlazerLT -I thought it was the oil cooler lines initially, but after a thorough cleaning it looks more like a front seal.
herkyhawki - Any idea where to pick that part up? I mean is it dealer only or is a preferred website to go through? Thanks for the hlep guys. |

Re: 96' S-10 4x4 - Possible leaking Front Seal
Timing cover is probably a dealer-only part, I'm guessing $50-$100. Do not get a used one, it will not seal.
First make sure it's not leaking from the crank position sensor. It's near the bottom of the timing cover. |
