02 Rear End Torque Specs

Hey all I have an 02 T/A WS6, I'm going to rebuild the rear end & have been looking for the torque specs and can't find them anywhere. I'm looking for ..
pinion torque to rotate ...
pinion nut torque ...
bearing cap bolt torque ...
ring gear bolt torques ...
and anything else I might need

Im sure these are in a haynes manual but I don't have one,
I'd appreciate if someone could get me these specs
thanks in advance ...

Re: 02 Rear End Torque Specs

Sorry man, my book only goes to '94. I can give you what the specs are for that rear if its the same.

7.625" axle:
diff. bearing cap: 60 ft/lbs.
diff. ring gear: 90 ft/lbs.
pinion lockbolt: 20 ft/lbs.

7.75" axle:
axle shaft retainer nuts: 31 ft/lbs.
diff. bearing cap bolts: 40 ft/lbs.
diff case half bolts: 29 ft/lbs.
diff ring gear bolts: 101 ft/lbs.

Hope that helps some or that the numbers are the same. Its all I have..eventually Ill be buying a manual for my '98 firebird and the info should be in there, but it wont help you in the meantime unfortunately. Good luck either way...Ill let you know if I get the manual this week in case you dont get to it before the weekend.

Re: 02 Rear End Torque Specs

appreciate the info, tore it down last night ... found out the pinion head bearing had been spinning on the pinion ... yep that means im looking at a new gear set ... it never ends ... but its better to find out this way! figured out why it was leaking oil ... no vent or vent hose ... doesn't look like ones ever been installed ... how did it get out of the factory that way? Oh well now im going to put all new bearings in it, new gears, new seals, put a vent on it, and vent hose (if it has a vent hose, not sure on the vent design).

I'm definitly not going to touch the motor, everything I touch on this car has problems, guess it was beat pretty hard before I got it, live and learn!
