1981 CV 302 to 351w swap HELP!!!!!
I purchased the car over a year ago off my grandparents estate sale with the intiontion to use it as a daily driver. i got 4 days out of it, on that 4th day i took out of town and jsut went for a cruise, hit 60 and let her ride. as i was headed back to town i began to loose power, no lights, nothing and before i could shut it down the engine seized. NOW, a year later i finally hualed it to town and put it in my garage, i pulled the 320 and c4 and started puting a 351w with a holly 650 and victor intake with a c6...came out on a 81 E350. WELLLL first thing i found was the oil pan would not fit, okay no problem i'll jsut get one....RIGHT you know how hard it is to find those damn things for decent price $400 bucks NEW $100 used
okay, so i morphed the 302 pan withe the 351, reshaped the oil tube to clear and laied a layer of JB weld over it to make it work. okay, now to wireing.......WTF i hate vacume controled crap, and what is this computer system they have??? so here i am...i need help, you got or know of a factory oil pan let me know please, got a clue ( diagrams please) on the elctrical, throw me a bone. i am sure i could figure this out if i could devote the time to it, but this thing was supposed to be on the road in june. any help would be great.

Re: 1981 CV 302 to 351w swap HELP!!!!!
Hello
Yes with the truck engine the oil pan sump will be in the wrong spot. I went through this looking for an oil pan for my 78 ford Van. Ordered one from the ford dealer for several hundred bucks, and it turned out to be totally the wrong one. What I did was sand blast the old pan and paint it up with some heavy paint. You might be able to get a reproduction from one of those after market magazines. I just checked, You can get a chrome one for 60 bucks go to northernautoparts.com The only major vacume lines you need is for the advance for the dist. and the modulator on the trans. I think the way it's hooked up my van is the dist. line is hooked to the carb and the trans modulater line is hooked to the manifold port. I wouldn't wory about vac lines going to those emmission sensors on the intake manifold etc. I'm sure some people here would yell about that, I would just eliminate them. What type of wiring diagrams do you need? I probally have some of that era. The wiring sould be all the same between the car and the van. ![]() Mike |

Re: 1981 CV 302 to 351w swap HELP!!!!!
Hello
Is it possible to use the switch from the c4 on the c6 trans? I am assuming you are upgrading to the c6 trans. The C4 would probally hold the 351, the c6 is just a heavier duty trans. It's been a while for me, and am tring to remember what the switches look like in compairson. I'll look through some of my books and see if I can get some wiring info on the switches. If I remember correctly your reverse light circuit is on that switch as well. Don't forget to use the spedo. gear from the original trans. The plastic gear will most likely be different in the c6. ![]() Mike |

Re: 1981 CV 302 to 351w swap HELP!!!!!
the c6 has jsut a two wire conection on the shift lever, the c4 was all internal..correct me if i am wrong, the c4 is sitting under a pile of engien parts so it is hard to see it accruatly, the only connection i cna find though is a 6 wire plug on the right side of the firewall. i am wondering now if one wire from the c6 is the netrual and the other is reverse and they are using a common ground.

Re: 1981 CV 302 to 351w swap HELP!!!!!
It's been a while since I fooled with those old Ford trannys. I might be confusing myself with parts from other transmmisions. I looked in my books and couldn't find any info on the neutral safety switch. If I run across anything I'll pass it along. Now that I am thinking about it the back up switch could be in the base of the column.
