Question What Motor Next

I have a 99 ext cab z71 with the 5.3 in it. This truck was my daily driver but i am going to be getting another vehicle for that so i can start to upgrade the silverado. I was thinking on rebuilding the stock 5.3 but i want to have more power. Origional motor has 131k on it

For the money, would it be better to rebuild/upgrade my 5.3 or order a 5.7 350 from gm? I am looking to get 400-500hp. I also want to put in a t56, and rebuild the rear end. Is it worth the money to just keep the 5.3 and rebuild/upgrade, or is it better to buy a performance 350 from gm? I want the most bang for the buck.

Also, i live in California. I know that most of the gm blocks a 50 state legal. How would it hookup to the factory wiring harness in my silverado?

Go with a 6.0L. It is a direct swap and you will be able to use everyone of your accessories from your 5.3L. Swap out the cam with a little larger cam and get alittle head work done and you'll easily surpass that 400hp goal. The 6.0Ls came with a manual option, so I'd look into that if you're wanting to stay away from the auto. Also, you'll have some wiring differences swapping over to the manual tranny, as well as some pedal work inside the cab.

As far as the motor goes, though, it's a simple swap with no additional parts required. You'll need a custom tune to tune for that cam/heads, but it will be more than worth it.
