RWD Dodge Stealth
I had a crazy dream last night, I currently have a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T (nonturbo), in the dream i converted the car to a 20B 3-rotor engine and some how made it rear-wheel drive...would it actually be possible to do this conversion from a n/a stealth?

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
it can be done, it's just not practical.

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
RWD conversions have been done. There are 2 guys with 440's in there 3s. One guy took a base Stealth and dropped a 440 with a 8 3/4 rear. The other guy dropped his 440 into a VR4 and used the stock VR4 rear. Bret Brinkiman modified his palnetary gears in his VR4 to make it RWD only.

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
OK, my basic philosophy on topics like these...if you have to ask if it's possible, it's probably a project beyond your ability. If it's a project beyond your ability...then it's an expensive project. You are talking about gathering alot of parts, and fabricating alot of parts...not cheap.

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
well i knew it was possible, anything is possible with enough time and money (and imagination =D) , i was just looking to see how many other people have done this, even though its not pratical its nice to see unique stuff.

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
Here's the article on Bret Brinkmans RWD 3000GT(I typed this up a while ago)
Laying some stripes- Bret Brinkmann's REAR wheel drive VR4 Well folks, hands down this has to be the most unique car featured in this magazine. Exterior? Stock. Interior? Stock. Engine? Nearly stock. Drivetrain? I think we have some explaining to do! About a year ago, Bret Brinkmann was reading a thread at 3si that was discussing RWD verses AWD. One member stated how he disliked AWD because it restricts the car after the launch and that if the 3/S was RWD, it would have a better quearter mile without a significant loss in the 60 foot times. Bret, an engineer by trade, immediately thought of a way to convert the 3/S AWD drivetrain to RWD. The solution was pretty simple. Weld up the planet gears in the planetary assembly. This gives a constent unvarying 50/50 torque split. Next he removed the ring gear on the front differential. That way the pinion gear is the only part of the front diff getting torque. Since the pinion gear (with no load on it) requires virtually no torque, all the torque goes to the rear wheels. So, what are the results? Bret can start out at part throttle in first at 2000 RPM, floor it, and by 2700 RPM's the rear end breaks loose, the rear right tire lifts up out a little as the chassis flexes, and the wheels spin all the way to redline. So, what about those quarter-mile times? Everyone was convinced AWD would be faster in the 1320, with a slightly slower 60' but bigger top-end. However, upon Bret's maiden voyage the car felt significantly slower. His times tell the whole story: in AWD form his best run was a 13.9 @102. In RWD form the best he could muster was a 14.5@95. The car would spin through first, spin second for a bit, and chirp third. Don't think this experiment is futile, however. Bret has plenty of ideaas in store. He is currently trying to break something in the rear end (2nd gear 7K RPM clutch dumpst havn't worked yet!). This fun research should give us all some insight as to the weak links in the rear of our cars. Plus, heck, what else is there to do with a bunch of old tires than to smoke them off ant turn them into rubber vapor? We're happy to report this VR4 is now doing its job in that regard.

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
^he should have shrunk the rear end as much as possible and stuck some big sticky drag slicks on there. Would of had to move some stuff...gut the floor of the hatch area...make it a proper drag car. Then see what kind of 1/4 mile he could run. Probably would have looked badass too. A 3/s with big old hot-rod rear tires...I wanna see a 3/s lift the front wheels baby!

Re: RWD Dodge Stealth
^plenty of AWD 3s's do it, just not a huge wheelie like your used to with those RWD drag kings...
