02 New Beetle 2.0 GLS: Red Temp Light

whenever i start the car, red temperature light comes on and starts beeping. this light is supposed to be blue when engine's cold, right? beeping goes away after a few beeps, but the light continues to flash for the next few minutes, then eventually goes away.

this used to be a once a week thing, but now it's every time i start the car.

what's wrong with my car?!?! please help.

Unhappy Re: 02 New Beetle 2.0 GLS: Red Temp Light

I have had this same problem with my 2000 beetle. I replaced the ect sensor and the result did not change. However, after I replaced the water pump the problem went away. Also, remember to replace the timing belt at the same time

A new coolant temp sensor is not expensive - maybe $AUD40 and clips into the coolant hose near the air cleaner. Change that and hope the rest is OK.

Re: 02 New Beetle 2.0 GLS: Red Temp Light

Depending on the exact symptoms, this thread may help too. May not be a bad sensor.
