Worst day ever
Today, at nine am CST, I agreed to sell Cassie for $24,000. I picked up a bank check from the buyer at his work place. I would give him the keys to Cassie tonight at 7:30, after I got off work. I called in to work to tell them I would be a little late, I was buying a new car.
At noon, I went to a Chevy Pre Owned dealership, and pulled out the $24,000 bank check in order to purchase a 1999 Active Autowerkes Stage 1 M3, with a full Eisman exhaust, UUC tranny bits, a Pioneer indash CD/Mp3/DVD player, two piece Falked wheels on very nice rubber, and 15% tint all the way around, among other nice things. At 12:15, whilst I was in the middle of filling out paper work, I was informed the bank check was no good. At 12:16, I called the bank, and they told me that the writter of said check had no account with the bank, nor was the check valid. At 12:25, I had to fight back tears as I pulled the keys to the Bimmer from my pocket, and handed them back over to the sales person, who appologized, and before I could even leave the building, I heard him on the phone to other customers about the car. At 7:30pm, I waited in the parking lot where I was supposed to give the buyer the keys to my car after I had bought the M3. I was standing there with a few friends, some from work, with a baseball bat. He never showed up. I went to where I met him to pick up the check, no one at the store knew who he was or had ever seen him. I had the keys in my pocket. I was five minutes away from owning my dream car. At least I still have Cassie. If it weren't for the fact that I am leaving to go back to school tommorow, I would use everything I could to hunt this fucker down, and make his life far beyond a living hell. Today has honestly been the worst day, so far, in my life.

G'damn man.
Is the name even real on the check? What info of yours does he have? Motherfuckers like that need to be boiled alive. Good thing you're not me, because school WILL wait, while I go dickhead hunting.

Re: Worst day ever
A lot of things have to do with perspective on life. This is certainly one of them. I would say this is one of your luckiest days. You came very close to loosing $24,000, but in the end it didn't work out.
If you want that M3 so bad, why don't you trade Cassie in at the dealership?

Re: Worst day ever
I once got 2 bad checks for the same car. Your lucky that you didn't get taken! Next time arrange to do the transaction at a bank and insist to have the check cut when you are present. That way you know it's good. Oh and if you find him, make sure you hit him for me too! I never got back at the two guys that did that to me!

Re: Worst day ever
Clawhammer's got a point man, you're lucky you didn't loose Cassie; I read your original post 2wice becuase I thought you'd lost Cassie.
On the other hand, that M3 sounds like a really good deal... hopefully it'll still be there when you sell Cassie, but if not another will turn up. Good luck.

Re: Worst day ever
Well it could've ended up worse, like Berserk said. People try to give out checks that they know will bounce for a car. Try listing Cassie on ebay, and see if it sells for what you want, if not pull it. Simple as that. It only costs $40 from what i've heard. Just my point of advise though.

Re: Worst day ever
I agree on the ebay thing. What I'd actually do is set a reserve price, which only costs $5 or $10 more. Then if the bid doesn't meed the reserve, you're in the clear. The reason why I'd do this rather than pulling the auction is that often times people bid within 3 seconds of the auction closing, and during those last 3 seconds you might actually get the price you want.

Re: Worst day ever
cassie, I'm well aware of scammers that use that stuff... i'm a member of another forum that i'll pm you that fights back to those scumbags. i was almost scammed out of a laptop by a fake check too, so i know that sucks. everything happens for a reason though, and i'm sure you'll get exactly what you need for cassie soon. It's just not time i guess. Those scammers are pains in the ass but you did the right thing by first taking the check with you before you even handed him the keys. that was a first sign that you were smarter than he thought.

Re: Worst day ever
man that sucks. good thing he didnt get the car yet....
dealer trade ins are never a good deal anyway, the dealer wont give you what your cars worth. like i was curious when we were at the dealership when my mom was buying a car so i asked what my cars trade in was, $5500, then i asked what itd sell for on the lot and they said $8500 (this was a year and 15k miles after i bought it for $5k )... so definatly sell it yourself.as far as having the M3, im sure theres another nice one out there that you can find. ebay might actually not be a bad place to look to buy one. my brothers roommate got a brand new STI for 25k off ebay, no scam it was perfect. |

Re: Worst day ever
Ya but with ebay you have to be carefull too. I would only open the bidding to serious bidders. Ones that have a lot of good feedback, or they have to contact you personally in order to bid. Never sell to someone that is unwilling to give you their phone number to talk about the deal. Anyone who wont isn't a real buyer. After I got 2 bad check I was pissed. People who contacted me VIA email I told the only way I would deal with them is if they called me. I didn't recive any more email from a lot of people or phone calls for that matter. With ebay you want to make sure you have a lagit bidders, cause it is 40 bucks every time you have to list the car.
If your buying it all comes down to feedback. Never buy from a person on ebay with a small amount of feedback. If they are unwilling to give you their personal infomation for contacting, dont bother! There are people scamming EVERYWHERE. Just be careful.

Re: Worst day ever
As mentioned above, glad to hear you didn't lose Cassie or get screwed for $24k. An M3 would have been awesome but be happy it wasn't worse.
