1988 GMC Sierra 2500 Fuel issues
I inherited a 1988 GMC 2500 that has been sitting for at least 2 yaers with gas in the lines. The truck starts and runs when I pour gas directly into the carb. This leads me to believe that the fuel lines or filter has been "gummed" up by the old gas. I was going to try a fuel additive to see if this would clean it out.
Does anyone know how to change a fuel filter on this truck and where it is located? I have very limited experience with fuel systems, so I am a little leary. |

First thing would be to check and see if fuel pump is running and then check fuel pressure. MT

You may also have to do a complete tbi rebuild.

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra 2500 Fuel issues
What is a tbi rebuild?
The only things that I would think to check are the fuel filter, pump, and lines. Is it even worth it to try an additive to see if the gas could be cleaned? I'm not that proficient in fuel systems and wondering if maybe it's worth it to take it to a shop for repair? |

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra 2500 Fuel issues
You'll need a helper for this. Lay under the fuel tank on the drivers side, about the middle of the tank and listen for the pump to start when the key is turned to the run position, not the start position. You should hear a little whining sound as it runs for a couple seconds. If you don't hear anything, then the pump is not starting. My 88 K2500 had a broken ground wire, which is the only single wire. The power wire is part of a three wire plug, the other two wires in that plug are for the fuel gauge sensor.
