91 electrical problems

i'm having lots of trouble with this one...no power to fuel pump, lights, and wipers. Everything else seems to be working...I've checked fuses all good...took out tester and only left three do not light up in fuse panel. Where do I go from here? The brake lights use to stay on before all of this trouble started. I recently talked to a mechanic and he advised jumping the dead fuses from the battery. I've got power to them now...still no go. I now have a power lead running from the battery to the fuel pump and can hear her go but still won't start. I have to wait for the wife to turn over the truck while I see if gas is flowing...any suggestions?
