Italian red for ferraris?

I was wondering, which year of ferrari paint does Tamiya Italian Red represent? I noticed that the red schemes for stock ferraris change every year. Right now I'm working on an F50 and was wondering which red would be good for a factory stock model.

Re: Italian red for ferraris?

ts-8 is definitely not the accurate color for a F50, someone in the forum used some cobra colors, which looks much better.

Re: Italian red for ferraris?

I believe Italian Red is Rosso Corsa after 1997. According to Glasurit they only produced four red paints for ferrari in 1995. Rosso, Rosso Barchetta, Rosso Monza Mica and another shade of Rosso. If you search for these colours on the internet you should be able to find out what they look like and choose from their, and then get them custom made for you. I know that my local Halfords can produce any paint for and put it in a spray can if you don't have an airbrush I would look for someone who offers this. I believe that this is the correct Rosso Corsa http://cobracolors.com/Merchant2/mer...egory_Code=FER

Re: Italian red for ferraris?

Two Rosso Corsa shade, one until '97 and one after and the Rosso Scuderia lately. I purchased the "late" kind and the code should be RAL 322/ PPG 75250; the classic rosso corsa should be the RAL 300. Alternatives could be Cobra or Finisher's or also body shop colors like PPG or Lecher: just come to a body shop and chose from the Ferrari's PPG or Lecher book: you'll take a flat base to gloss up with a 2 part clear (acrylics or uretanics) or also some standard clear like the TS3, the gunze or other.

Re: Italian red for ferraris?

i've read some ferrari history, and painting the older cars can be tricky because ferrari apparently used whatever red paint it could find.

for the modern cars, i ran across a build diary of an F2000 in which the builder mixed red, orange and white in a 91 ratio.

Re: Italian red for ferraris?

Maybe Leon will post some specifics. But, Rosso Scuderia is the F1 color after the Marlboro partnership came up. The Marlboro Orange got melded in the Rossa Corsa to yield that color. The color is also now available for the road cars along with Rossa Corsa.

If you don't use Cobra Colors, Italian Red versus Guards Red (close enough) would be used depending on year of vehicle. Since I use Cobra Colors now, I've forgotten which applies. If I recollect correctly, Italian Red is closer to Rossa Corsa and Guards Red for the older Ferraris. Let me see if I can find the notes on this!

Re: Italian red for ferraris?

This is a very interesting thread, and all your input is great! Unfortunately cobra doesn't ship overseas, so I only have Tamiya and Gunze to choose from.

I'm sure you'll find a body shop supplier or a body shop near you that will give you exactly the same stuff they use in real ferrari restoration. I discover one mile close to me.

According to the PPG database, there have been 6 differnt ROSSO CORSA shades since 1981. I have listed them below with appropriate paint codes.

1981-89 (300)
1983-89 (300/600)
1987-93 (300/900)
1993-96 (300/12)
1997- (231191,231192,322,65427400,65427500) 360 Mod, ENZO, 575M, 456M
2004- (229120)

If you wish to have any of the above mixed up, please order through my website,
