Re: pistons

They are all the same bore, the d15's have either shorter rods or shorter compression height so if you put them in a d16 block you would have insane low compression. They are not all shaped the same, if you search around there is a site somewhere that shows them all laid out next to each other. I dont think any will cause valve problems with any of the heads. Several of the heads are shaped differnt and should be used with the right pistons though.

Re: pistons

Once again, he is correct. I don't know the differences on all the pistons, but I do know quite a bit about the D16A1 pistons, which is the DOHC D series from the first gen Tegs I believe. You can use those pistons, but your gonna need some head work done, cam, cam gear, some intake and exhaust work and alot of tuning. Those pistons will up the Compression up to around 12.5:1, so thats the reasoning behind all the work, ofcourse I don't know if your looking for a turbo application or all motor.

Re: pistons

The zc pistons also are higher compression, but I think its around 11:1.

My old set up was like this. The compression ratio was more like 11:1 like tsc said. I know this because with 2* advanced cam timing it took a whole year to detonate always running 93 octane. It was a nice set up and would burn tires through 3rd but also blow out a cloud of oil and richly burnt fuel... damn code 1.

Re: pistons

it's like tsc said, the zc pistons are gonna raise your compression. or just bore it out to 81mm and get ctr's. lol

hey tsc aren't the d16a1 and zc pistons the same???

Re: pistons

There is a guy on D-Series.org that did a build with the A1 pistons and says he got 160 at the wheels with this setup, no NOS, no increase in rev limit either, the guy knows his shit with these motors and can answer just about any question about it.

Here is the link to the thread

I'm planning on doing this build with my race car once I get the CRX going, its a good build, especially if your going for a stock looking motor, which is what I need for the race car....we aren't supposed to do anything to the motors

Re: pistons

Right now I'm doing (well collecting parts) a d build which should be yielding in the 170-180 range- but its not going to be very streetable at all.
