air suspension??

Hey guys. My town car air springs are shot. The compressor comes on every damn minute the car is on. I ordered new air springs from suncore industries, some one here posted they bought from them. My question is, can i drive with the compressor off without doing harm to the car? Thanks!

hey there. yes you can drive with the air compressor off without doing harm to the car but only if your air springs are not leaking. you say they are shot. so i am assuming that they leak. is the rear of the car dropped down low to the ground? if so, then do not drive the car. you can cause damage to the rear of the car if the rear end is lowered close to the ground due to blown air springs. so i am going to go with the assumption that when you say your air springs are shot, that means they leak, which means the rear of the car is lowered very close to the ground. get back to me with more information you may have.

Re: air suspension??

Hey man, yeah they are leaking. The car is lower in the back but not touching ground. Rides rough of course, but i am driving slow and careful. I turned off the compressor so i dont damage it. This has been going on for about 4 months, since i got the car. I was told the compressor should only come on once a week to level the car. This damn thing comes on every minute!!

FOUR MONTHS
Two things to say about that, that's gotta be the most embarrassing looking ride on the road, why would someone do that with a Lincoln

- Air expands and contracts, load weights change, etc. The air system adjusts to changing conditions, venting or running the compressor accordingly.
The system also runs self tests running compressor and vents every time you cycle the ignition.

You will cook the compressor if you leave it on, very expensive mistake.

Park it and get it fixed

yea if the compressor pumps up the rear and then it the spring leak the air out, don't drive the car because you can cause more damage.

your compressor should be ok. just make sure when you put on the new springs that the rear pumps up normally and when the car is shut off that it drops down to normal height. also, keep an eye on your relay for the air compressor. if that starts to blow, then that is a sign that your compressor is on its way out. other than that, you should be fine.

and don't feel dumb. with my 95 town car i had a problem with the air suspension not letting the air out after weight was added in the rear and then removed. i drove it like that for almost 6 months with a jack up rear end. eventually the pressure built up so much that it blew an air line right out of my air compressor and the rear end dropped to the ground like a rock. turned out there was just a leaf stuck in the vent valve which wouldn't allow the air to vent. if i only checked that then i wouldn't have to pay so much for a compressor since they are not cheap

Re: air suspension??

I got my car back from the shop. They did a good job. The compressor does not come on like before and the car is riding nice.

after riding around in the car with a blow air suspension, it probably feels like your riding on air now
