Humming/grinding while on brake.

95' GP 3.1 with 94k

I am new to the site and have a question:

I am suspecting a bad passenger rear wheel hub/bearing. The car hums louder with increasing speed and hums (almost like grinding) under the brake (bearing gets loaded/unloaded??). I have not dissasembled it yet, but was wondering if a bearing can hum under braking conditions? Rear brakes are fairly new.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

Welcome to AF!!

The bearing can hum under braking as you are putting increased stress on the bearing at the time you are braking. The noise is probably present all the time you just notice it more when the brakes are applied. I would change it soon as it may fail on you rather quickly.

Thanks for the reply. I do hear the hum at 35mph and higher. I will replace it tomorrow.
